8:30am - 12:30pm
$135 per student for 4 hour workshop (coffee and morning tea included)

Learn the basics of relief printmaking with an introduction to woodcut, and print your very own works on paper. This versatile and accessible technique can be applied to the creation of artist’s books, textile design, poster design and limited edition prints.

This class will cover carving out your image from a Japanese maple block, cutting techniques, safety, correct inking of a plate and hand printing. You will also be advised on how to hand colour your prints and introduce textures into your work.

You will take home a striking set of your own prints, your wood block (double-sided, with the possibility of two quick images during the workshop or the second on your own time!), full instructions and resource pdf’s so you have the ability to print at home using this technique!

  • This workshop uses oil-based inks that can be difficult to remove from clothing. Remember to bring an apon or wear a studio-friendly outfit!
  • If desired, bring a photo or sketch (roughly 10 x 11 cm) to trace on to your block - but you are welcome to freehand a new piece or take inspiration from the surroundings!

Because we are a small business with artisan teachers it makes it difficult to refund your tickets, however we are able to arrange for an alternative class of the same nature when it becomes available or you are welcome to transfer your class to a friend. Thank you for understanding.
