9:00am - 12:00pm
$80 per student for 3 hour workshop (coffee and morning tea included)

Indigo Open Vat sessions are held once every eight weeks for those who have completed an introductory shibori workshop with us. We bring the indigo and binding materials, and you bring your fabric!

You are welcome to prepare your fabric in advance, or fold it on the day. Please note there is no instruction involved in open vat sessions, so they are not appropriate for those who have not done any shibori or indigo dyeing before.

To yield the best results, please ensure that fabric is made from a natural fibre (cotton, linen, wool, silk, hemp, rayon, bamboo etc) and is prewashed.

Please avoid bringing many large items (tablecloths or bedspreads) as the vat is being shared amongst the group. If you have a large project in mind, an email to us in advance would be appreciated so we can discuss options!

Because we are a small business with artisan teachers it makes it difficult to refund your tickets, however we are able to arrange for an alternative class of the same nature when it becomes available or you are welcome to transfer your class to a friend. Thank you for understanding.

Tawny Threads is a Brisbane-based textile studio run by artists Claudia Husband and Chris Hagen. Our main focus is the design and production of textiles in the form of printed, dyed and woven fibres. Every print design is unique and exclusive to the Tawny Threads brand.

These designs are transferred to the final textile surface through either professional digital printing or traditional hand-dyed methods, and either sewn into garments or homewares, or made into wallpaper. In our dyeing processes, we endeavour to maintain traditional methods of fabric dyeing, using only natural fibres (cotton, wool, silk, linen, bamboo, hemp and rayon) and natural dye sources such as indigo and vegetable/plant dyes.
