Almost every culture has their own version of the three-legged wooden milking stool. Designed to be used on uneven surfaces, there are many different ways to construct them. They were often made in a primitive way to be utilitarian rather than decorative. However, they have become a bit of a design icon and look fantastic as an accessory in any home.
In the bush stool making class at Vieille Branche you will construct a three legged stool using only hand tools. The legs will rough branches and fitted to the top using a wedged spigot. There is no glue or fixings used at all, so you will be relying on the tools to create the joints and shape the top. You will also cover furniture finishes and tool sharpening during the day.
This class is a lot of fun and designed for everyone to be able to participate.
This is a full day workshop, a meal and drink from the Vieille Branche cafe will be included in the ticket price. Food will be available to purchase from the cafe as well if you would like morning tea or afternoon tea.
Carol Russell has been a furniture maker, restorer and teacher for the last 25 years, she has fairly recently become obsessed with carving and whittling spoons, believing they offer the perfect balance between form and function.
