Artist Books & Travel Journal with Joanne Armytage
8:30am - 12:30pm (First Saturday)
8:30am - 12:30pm (Second Saturday)
Cost: $250 per person
Learn how to make an Artist Book and fill the pages with treasured images, memorabilia and hidden gems from your travelling experiences. We all take photos of our travels and then they are stored on our computers or packed away in a cupboard. By creating an Artist Book to fill with these memories you will be creating an artwork that you will be happy to put on display.
What you need to bring
Bring along some memorabilia from travels or family holidays. Ideas about what you would like your Artist Book to represent.
If you have a specific medium that you like to work with then you should also bring this.
If you wish to print make sure you also bring an apron or over shirt.
Joanne will provide
Paint, paper, card, sewing machine, threads, embroidery cottons, glue, lino, printing inks, watercolour and brushes, pencils, water colour pastels and pencils.
The workshop will run over 2 days. Either 4hrs and 4hrs or 6hrs and 2hrs.
Each student will end up with a 24 page Artist Book.
We will be using a range of watercolour papers.
The students will learn the basic lino printing techniques.
They will have the opportunity to carve their own lino. I will also have some old wooden printing blocks that can be used.
Joanne will instruct them in the use of watercolour.
We will look at different ideas for presenting works in the Artist Book – including hand sewing and machine sewing.
Joanne has been practicing art most of her life and studied at Southbank TAFE majoring in Ceramics. She has experimented in many different mediums and techniques and works in clay and printmaking. Her recent passion has been watercolours and has attended a Watercolour / Botanical course in Melbourne. Joanne loves to combine the various mediums and techniques.
Joanne has run workshops teaching teachers with clay and worked with school children on large-scale ceramic mural projects as well as drawing workshops.
A few years back Joanne attended an Artist Book workshop and since then has been making books. She loves to travel and the Artist Book has been a manageable way for Joanne to keep drawing and painting whilst on the road.
